For me, painting is an escape from the mundane activities of everyday life.

When I start a painting, time just slips away. I find myself immersed in the creative process. With each painting, I set out to depict a scene that is not only accurate to the setting, but calming to the eye as well. Painting in oils allows me to do this. Oils allows me to softly blend lights and darks to create the softness seen in all my paintings.

Most of the time, I paint from photographs. By manipulating the image in the photos, as well as my use of colors, highlights, and shadow, I am able to compose an image that is both unique, and separate from the original work. And, although painting can often times be a tedious affair, in the end, I can step back and say, I did this!
